New Delhi: The Enforcement Task Force of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has reviewed inspection outcomes and enforcement actions across the National Capital Region (NCR), with a renewed focus on strengthening compliance mechanisms to curb air pollution.

At its 128th meeting held on April 2, the Task Force assessed inspections carried out between March 14 and March 26 across key sectors, including construction and demolition (C&D), industrial units, road dust management, and diesel generator (DG) sets.

A total of 175 inspections were conducted during the period, comprising 23 at C&D sites, 37 in the industrial sector, and 114 related to DG set violations.

Based on inspection findings, closure of 10 units has been proposed, while sealing of DG sets has been recommended for 27 units. Show cause notices were issued to eight units, and environmental compensation has been proposed in one case.

The Task Force also reviewed enforcement related to road dust management. Inspections across 16 zones in Meerut and Faridabad identified 140 violations, prompting directions to municipal authorities for corrective action, including issuance of notices in cases of repeated non-compliance.

Officials highlighted the need for intensified inspections in priority areas such as DG sets, C&D activities, road dust, and stone crushers. The Commission is also in the process of restructuring its Flying Squad teams to enhance enforcement efficiency.

As per cumulative data reviewed during the meeting, CAQM Flying Squads have inspected 26,672 units, projects, and entities so far. This has resulted in 1,755 closure directions for violations, of which 1,330 units have resumed operations after compliance verification.

Additionally, 123 cases have been referred to State Pollution Control Boards and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee for final decisions, while 302 entities remain under examination.

The Commission emphasised the importance of stronger inter-agency coordination, improved inspection mechanisms, and strict adherence to environmental norms to ensure effective air pollution control across the NCR.
