ASI Undertakes Restoration of Shalimar Bagh and Mehrauli Park Monuments in Delhi

New Delhi, July 21: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has initiated conservation and restoration efforts for historical monuments located within Delhi Development Authority (DDA)-owned land, specifically focusing on Shalimar Bagh and Mehrauli Archaeological Park.
In a written reply to the Lok Sabha on Monday, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat informed that these two sites are currently under active restoration by the ASI. No other monuments under ASI’s jurisdiction within DDA-owned lands have ongoing conservation projects at this time.
The conservation work is being carried out under the framework of the National Policy for Conservation, 2014, and adheres strictly to the principles of preserving the authenticity and integrity of the structures. ASI officials are directly supervising the efforts to ensure that repair and maintenance activities are executed meticulously.
The Ministry emphasized that while developing public amenities within the precincts, all measures are being taken to minimize any negative impact on the heritage structures.
The restoration work is prioritized based on the condition of the monument and the availability of resources, ensuring that the cultural heritage is preserved for future generations.
