Hyderabad: Swiss financial major UBS on Wednesday announced the opening of a new Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, marking a significant expansion of its India operations and reinforcing growing India–Switzerland economic collaboration.
The new state-of-the-art facility in Gachibowli is expected to add nearly 3,000 professionals over the next two years, strengthening Hyderabad’s position as a global hub for high-value financial technology, operations and GCC leadership, an official release said.
Hyderabad Hosts All Top 10 Global Financial Institutions
Speaking at the inauguration, Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Minister for Information Technology, Electronics, Communications, Industries and Legislative Affairs, Government of Telangana, said UBS’s decision reflects Hyderabad’s credibility as a global talent and innovation hub.
He noted that Telangana has created an ecosystem capable of delivering deep-tech engineering and advanced software development at scale and consistency. With UBS joining the city’s ecosystem, Hyderabad now hosts all of the world’s top ten global financial institutions, underscoring its emergence as a premier global financial and technology centre.
Sanjay Kumar, Special Chief Secretary, ITE&C Department, added that UBS’s expansion demonstrates what becomes possible when global institutions align with an ecosystem designed for quality and future readiness. The new centre, he said, will catalyse high-end skill creation and deepen Hyderabad’s integration into global financial and technology value chains.
Boost to India–Switzerland Economic Corridor
The expansion comes amid strengthening India–Switzerland ties under the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between India and EFTA nations. UBS’s growing footprint in Hyderabad aligns with TEPA’s objective of fostering investment, capability-building and long-term collaboration, particularly in high-value knowledge sectors.
Matthias Schacke, Head India Service Company and Group Operation & Technology Office India at UBS, said Hyderabad remains an important growth location due to its strong talent pool, supportive policies and infrastructure. The bank plans to expand its technology capabilities, including artificial intelligence, while strengthening its operations base in the city.
Strategic Expansion of GCC Model
UBS teams in India have contributed to the firm’s global platform across technology, finance and shared operations for over a decade. The new Hyderabad office adds capacity for collaboration and emerging areas such as AI, further embedding India into UBS’s global operating model.
The expansion also reflects the broader GCC transformation underway in India, where global financial institutions are moving beyond back-office functions to high-value analytics, digital transformation, cybersecurity, AI engineering and product innovation.
With nearly 3,000 new roles planned, UBS’s Hyderabad GCC is set to become a major driver of advanced financial technology talent and cross-border collaboration, reinforcing Telangana’s ambition to be a global financial and innovation hub.
