QCI, BHEL hold Inter PSU Gunvatta Manthan to drive quality and operational excellence

New Delhi, November 12: The Quality Council of India (QCI), in collaboration with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), organised the Inter PSU Gunvatta Manthan at its headquarters in New Delhi, aimed at fostering quality-driven collaboration and operational excellence across India’s public sector enterprises.
The conclave brought together leading Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) — including BEL, BPCL, EIL, GAIL, IOCL, PGCIL, and THDC — to exchange experiences in Six Sigma, Lean, Quality Circles, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), digital automation, supplier development, and sustainability-linked initiatives.
Enabling cross-learning and benchmarking
The interactive session, led by Dr Durgesh C. Gupta, Head of Corporate Quality and Business Excellence at BHEL, in partnership with QCI’s National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB), provided a platform for benchmarking quality practices and identifying areas for improvement across PSUs.
The initiative aligns with QCI’s vision to create globally competitive, quality-driven institutions contributing to Viksit Bharat 2047.
Leadership voices
Jaxay Shah, Chairperson of QCI, said the council remains committed to strengthening India’s quality ecosystem across industries. “The Inter PSU Gunvatta Manthan is a constructive step towards embedding a culture of quality and excellence in industrial operations,” he noted.
In his keynote address, SM Ramanathan, Director (R&D), BHEL, emphasized the role of PSUs in driving socio-economic development and called for simplicity and effectiveness from design to delivery to achieve better customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
Dr Ravi P. Singh, Chairperson, NABCB, highlighted the importance of strengthening conformity assessment mechanisms to enhance the credibility and international standing of Indian quality systems.
Pathways for institutional collaboration
The event concluded with a joint QCI–BHEL session outlining future models for collaboration, including tailored quality partnerships and maturity enhancement programmes.
The Inter PSU Gunvatta Manthan reaffirmed the shared commitment of QCI and BHEL to promote quality-oriented governance, process excellence, and sustainable transformation across India’s public sector landscape.
