Secunderabad Cantonment to Get ₹128 Crore Underground Drainage System with Defence Ministry Funds

The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) is set to construct a ₹128 crore underground drainage network and two major stormwater drains at Patny and Rasoolpura, aimed at tackling waterlogging during heavy rains. This development will be funded as part of the ₹303.62 crore transferred to SCB by the Defence Ministry, along with an additional grant of ₹11 crore, announced BJP Malakjgiri MP Eatala Rajender on July 8, 2025.

Addressing the media, Rajender said that he and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy had earlier urged the Defence Ministry to reallocate compensation funds—meant for land acquired for two elevated corridors—towards civic development in the Cantonment. The SCB had also passed a board resolution supporting this request.

The funds will be used not only for drainage but also for improving internal roads, developing parks, and other civic amenities. Rajender also mentioned plans to build two-bedroom housing for the underprivileged under an integrated development plan.

Calling it a major boost for the region, he said, “This is a significant amount for a single constituency and will transform the face of the Cantonment area.” He also expressed gratitude to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Kishan Reddy for facilitating the fund release.
