Bihar Bandh: Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav Lead INDIA Bloc Protest Over Electoral Roll Changes
Patna, July 9, 2025 —
Rail and road traffic came to a halt in several parts of Bihar on Wednesday as opposition parties enforced a statewide bandh in protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls currently underway ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
Led by key leaders of the INDIA bloc, including Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, a large protest march was taken out to the Election Commission’s office in Patna. The demonstration was part of a larger agitation organized by the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance), alleging that the revision exercise could be misused to manipulate voter data and suppress democratic participation.
The opposition termed the exercise as “unconstitutional” and called for its immediate halt, warning of wider agitation if their demands are not met. Protests were also reported from other districts, disrupting local transport services and daily activities.
Security has been stepped up across the state as the protest continues to draw attention ahead of the high-stakes state polls.
