New Delhi, September 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today graced the second day of Semicon India 2025, reaffirming India’s commitment to becoming a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing and innovation. Addressing industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders at the event, PM Modi highlighted the government’s ambitious plans to boost semiconductor production and position India as a key player in the global electronics supply chain.

The Prime Minister underscored the importance of semiconductors as the backbone of modern technology, powering everything from smartphones and automobiles to advanced military equipment and AI-driven systems. He announced that India aims to attract over $15 billion in semiconductor investments in the coming years and set a target to establish at least two Tier-1 semiconductor fabrication plants by 2026.

“Our vision is to ensure that India becomes a self-reliant and globally integrated semiconductor manufacturing hub,” PM Modi declared. “This will not only reduce dependency on imports but also create lakhs of high-skilled jobs and stimulate innovation across sectors.” He emphasized the government’s focus on nurturing a robust ecosystem, including research and development, skill development, and conducive policy environment.

The event, held in New Delhi, is considered a pivotal moment for India’s electronics and semiconductor ambitions, bringing together industry giants, startups, research institutions, and government agencies. The government has already launched the National Semiconductor Mission, offering incentives and support to promote domestic chip manufacturing.

Industry leaders lauded the Prime Minister’s vision, with several expressing optimism about India’s potential to become a global semiconductor manufacturing center. The event featured key discussions on emerging technologies, supply chain resilience, and the importance of public-private partnerships in realizing India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

As part of the broader digital India push, the government aims to catalyze innovation and make India a preferred destination for semiconductor design and manufacturing. PM Modi concluded his address by urging stakeholders to work collaboratively towards building an Atmanirbhar Bharat in semiconductors, ensuring India’s competitive edge in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.
