Bengaluru Instagram Page Admin Arrested for Secretly Filming Women Without Consent

A 26-year-old man, identified as Gurdeep Singh from KR Puram, Bengaluru, has been arrested by Bengaluru Police for allegedly filming women on the streets without their knowledge or consent and uploading the footage to Instagram. The account, which positioned itself as a “travel and street fashion” platform, is now at the center of a legal and public backlash for voyeuristic and invasive content.

The page had gathered over 11,000 followers, sharing videos taken in busy public areas like Church Street and Koramangala, often shot from inappropriate angles. Some of the videos captured women visibly uncomfortable or unaware of being filmed. Despite the discomfort portrayed in many clips, the content was posted to boost engagement on the platform.

The issue came to light when a young student from Bengaluru discovered a video of herself uploaded without permission. The clip went viral, exposing her to unwanted attention and online harassment. In an emotional video shared on Reddit, she recounted the experience of realizing she’d been filmed and the trauma that followed.
“I didn’t even know someone had recorded me until I started receiving creepy messages,” she said. Despite her repeated requests and reports, the video remained online.

Her story triggered massive outrage on social media, with users slamming the account for harassment, digital stalking, and objectification. Many urged authorities, including @BlrCityPolice and cybercrime units, to take action.

The account’s Instagram bio claimed:
“Exploring the world through travel, luxurious cars and street fashion. A platform curated to inspire, not to impress – with respect to all.”
However, the content starkly contradicted that claim, with multiple clips clearly infringing on the privacy and dignity of women.

This is not the first such case in the city. In May this year, police arrested a 27-year-old accountant who ran an anonymous Instagram handle featuring voyeuristic videos of women filmed inside Namma Metro coaches. Investigations found that he had secretly recorded 13 different videos during his daily commute.

These incidents have raised serious concerns about the misuse of social media for predatory behavior, prompting calls for stricter digital surveillance, accountability, and legal reforms to protect women in public spaces. The Bengaluru Police have assured that further investigation is underway, and more stringent action will follow if necessary.
