Aadhaar App Sees Strong Public Adoption; 14 Million Downloads, 1 Million Mobile Updates Through Platform
NEW DELHI: Aadhaar App sees strong public adoption and everyday utility; 1 million update mobile number via App
The Unique Identification Authority of India is witnessing strong public adoption of the new Aadhaar App, underlining growing trust among residents in secure, digital and convenient Aadhaar services.
UIDAI has recorded nearly 14 million downloads of the Aadhaar App so far, reflecting its expanding reach and role in making Aadhaar more accessible, user-friendly and instantly available across the country.
The next-generation mobile application is designed to provide Aadhaar Number Holders with a secure, convenient and privacy-first platform to carry, share, show and verify their digital identity. The app is available on Android and iOS platforms.
Dedicated to the nation on January 28, the app is averaging over 100,000 downloads daily. Its growing utility is evident in key service usage metrics. Nearly 1 million residents have updated their registered mobile numbers through the app. Around 357,000 Aadhaar Number Holders have used it to lock or unlock their biometrics, while close to 800,000 residents have downloaded their e-Aadhaar using the new platform.
The Aadhaar App promotes data minimisation, consent-based sharing and selective disclosure of information. Advanced features include face verification for proof of presence, one-click biometric lock and unlock, authentication history viewing, and a QR-based contact card for secure sharing of details.
Designed for ease of use across user groups, the app supports multiple real-life use cases. These include hotel check-ins through Offline Verification Seeking Entity QR code scanning, age-gated access, hospital admissions for visitors and attendants, event entries, and verification of gig workers and service partners. UIDAI is also strengthening the offline verification ecosystem by registering entities to utilise the app’s features for streamlined service delivery.
The app enables management of up to five Aadhaar profiles on a single device, promoting the concept of One Family – One App. Along with address updates, residents can now update their registered mobile numbers, with additional update services planned.
The strong uptake reflects UIDAI’s continued push to leverage technology for improved service delivery, enhanced user experience and stronger digital infrastructure. Regular updates, enhanced security protocols and a simplified interface have contributed to its growing acceptance across age groups and regions.
With adoption continuing to rise, the Aadhaar App is positioned to play a larger role in delivering secure, convenient and inclusive digital identity services nationwide.
