New Delhi: Major General Rachel Thomas on Monday assumed charge as Additional Director General (ADG) of the Military Nursing Service (MNS), succeeding Major General Lissamma PV, who retired on May 31, 2026 after completing four decades of distinguished service to the nation.

An alumna of the College of Nursing at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, Maj Gen Thomas was commissioned into the Military Nursing Service on June 1, 1988.

With a career spanning nearly four decades, she has held a wide range of clinical and administrative appointments across key military hospitals under the Armed Forces Medical Services. Her experience includes service at several strategically important border hospitals operating under the Northern and Eastern Commands.

As the new head of the Military Nursing Service, Maj Gen Thomas is expected to lead one of the most critical components of India’s military healthcare system, which provides nursing support and patient care across military hospitals, field units and operational areas of the armed forces.

She takes over the appointment at a time when the Armed Forces Medical Services continue to strengthen healthcare delivery, operational readiness and medical support capabilities across the country.
